|MY NAME IS BERNADETTE
On a June day in 1858, Fr. Peyramale noticed a girl’s head encircled by a halo as he gave her Holy Communion. When she raised her head, he recognised her as Bernadette Soubirous. What follows are words, either spoken or written, by Bernadette herself.
A golden cloud came out of the cave and flooded the niche with radiance. Then a lady, young and beautiful, exceedingly beautiful, the like of whom I had never seen, stood on the edge of the niche. She smiled and smiled at me, beckoning me to come closer as though she were my mother, and she gave me to understand in my soul that I was not mistaken.
The Lady was dressed in white, with a white veil on her head, and a blue sash at her waist. A Rosary of white beads on a golden chain was on her right arm. On that cold winter’s day, her feet were bare, but on each foot was a golden rose radiant with the warmth of summer.
I went upon my knees and took my Rosary from my pocket The Lady took the Rosary from her arm and I began to cross myself. My arm could not move until the Lady herself made a beautiful Sign of the Cross.
The Lady let me pray the Rosary on my own. She passed the beads through her fingers, she did not say the words. She signed for me to come closer but I did not dare. She smiled at me, she bowed to me. She disappeared into the niche, the golden cloud faded, and I was all alone.

A group scientists in Italy have claimed that neutron radiation caused by an earthquake in 33 AD could have induced the image that many believe to be Christ on the Holy Shroud of Turin.
They also believe this seismic activity at that time led to false carbon dating of the cloth in 1988.
Until now, no plausible physical reason has been given to explain how the image appears on the Shroud through radiation. But the group of researchers, led by Alberto Carpinteri of the Politecnico di Torino in Italy, has proposed these findings in an article published in Springer’s journal Meccanica. The findings were published online on Feb. 11.
Carpinteri’s team believes that high-frequency pressure waves generated in the Earth’s crust during earthquakes are the source of such neutron emissions. Their findings are based on piezonuclear fission reactions, which can be triggered when very brittle rock specimens are crushed under a press machine.
Analagously, the researchers believe that neutron flux increments, in correspondence to seismic activity, could be a result of the same reactions. A group of Russian scientists found a noticeable increase in neutron flux in earthquakes over a certain magnitude, leading the researchers to consider the possibility that neutron emissions could have induced the image on the Shroud.
Carpinteri’s team experiments have confirmed that “oxidative phenomena” generated by earthquakes can provide 3D images on cloth. “Moreover, a further effect of neutron irradiation could have provided a wrong radiocarbon dating due to an increment in C14-6 nuclei in the linen fibres,” they wrote. The 1988 findings claimed the Shroud was at most 728 years old.
The earthquake theory is backed up by historical records which show that major tremors in Old Jerusalem took place at that time – 33 A.D., the time widely believed to be of Christ’s Death and Resurrection. The accounts of such seismic activity in connection with the Resurrection are also mentioned in the Gospels.
Matthew the Evangelist wrote that there was a strong earthquake at the moment of Christ’s death: “When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”, he wrote (Matthew 27: 54).
He also wrote there was another even stronger earthquake at the time of the Resurrection: “And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men.” (Matthew 28:2–4).
Joseph of Arimathea also wrote in ‘The Narrative of Joseph’: “And, behold, after He had said this, Jesus gave up the ghost, on the day of the preparation, at the ninth hour. And there was darkness over all the earth; and from a great earthquake that happened, the sanctuary fell down, and the wing of the temple.”
Further evidence of strong seismic activity at the time of Christ’s Death and Resurrection was also recorded in ancient Greek literature. A historian named Thallos, who probably lived in Rome in the middle of the first century, also spoke of the darkening of the sky and an earthquake on that day.
Since Tuesday morning, hundreds of believers have been rushing to Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine in Chennai after news spread that a statue of mother Mary blinked its eyes.
The church organises a special feast for 11 days—currently, the 113th annual feast and 66th national pilgrimage celebrations are in progress—at the shrine located in Perambur, a locality in north
On the left entrance of the shrine, perched atop a glass-fronted wall, is the statue of mother Mary.
On Tuesday morning, news of the statue blinking its eyes spread and a huge crowd gathered outside the shrine to witness the “miracle”.
The news also generated social media frenzy. While believers “thanked God for the miracle”, sceptics questioned its veracity.
Josephine Roche, a regular at the church, said she had never seen such a miracle in Chennai before.
The shrine’s architecture itself is inspired from the Lourdes Shrine in France.
“In France the original church was mainly built at the place where Mary herself is believed to have appeared to a shepherd girl,” Roche said.
She believes “the miracle” will attract more pilgrims during the ongoing feast at the shrine, which is also one of the largest parishes in Chennai. But a rationalist and social activist, who did not want to be named, dismissed the incident as the church’s another crowd-pulling tactic.
“Please ignore. Not worth wasting your time,” he said.
Maalai Malar, a Tamil daily, reported that the church was cleaned recently for the celebrations. The glass wall was also refurbished, which might have created an illusion of the statue opening its eyes, the report said.
HT’s attempt to contact father Joseph Andrew, in charge of the church, was unsuccessful as he was busy organising the feast.
Christians flock to take photos of a statue of the Virgin Mary that weeps tears of oil, residents in the small Israeli town of Tarshiha say.
Roped in rosary beads, a glistening statue of the Virgin Mary sits in a glass box, surrounded by worshippers who pray and sing songs.
Osama Khoury said his wife found the object covered in oil not long ago. The statue spoke to his wife, and told her to fear not, Khoury said.

A woman whose horrific experience living in an Indiana home that she and even city police are convinced was a haunted ‘portal to hell’ has spoken out on her paranormal trauma and what it was like to be a family possessed.
Latoya Ammons says she has seen her own daughter levitate off a bed, her son walk up a wall so effortlessly that even a psychiatrist was at a loss and was herself the victim of demonic possession in what appears to be an average home in the Gary community near where Michael Jackson grew up.
‘Me and my mother and my children, we almost lost our lives,’ said Ammons, whose undeniably terrifying experience left her chilled to her core and now has an entire nation captivated by her spectral tale.

Gary police Capt. Charles Austin said it was the strangest story he had ever heard.
Austin, a 36-year veteran of the Gary Police Department, said he initially thought Indianapolis resident Latoya Ammons and her family concocted an elaborate tale as a way to make money. But after several visits to their home and interviews with witnesses, Austin said simply, “I am a believer.”

The piece of cloth stained with the blood of the late Pope John Paul has today been recovered in the basement of two of the men detained for stealing the reliquary last week.
Police believe that the men accused of stealing the cloth, both in their early twenties, are drug addicts, a press conference in L’Aquila, east of Rome, was told today.
The piece of blood-soaked cloth worn by the Pope when he was shot in a failed assassination attempt in 1981 was stolen on Saturday from a medieval sanctuary in the Abruzzo mountains.

Reverend (Pere) Lamy: “…Out in the orchard it was given to me to see Our Lord on the cross. I saw Him while some boys were stealing my pears. I was actually running after them with a rake, saying: ‘I will show you.’ Then, suddenly, there He was.” “It was in the month of September during the holidays, on a Sunday …I cannot remember the year. I was at the Guild. I had the key and went into the property. I was keeping a watch on the fruit because I used to give it to the children. There was quite a band of thieves there. I lay down in the grass to hide because the grass was very high. As they came near I got up, seized a rake, and ran after them as fast as I could, brandishing the rake and shouting: ‘ You rascals, you wait!’ I raised the rake though I did not intend to injure them. When I reached the wall by the road, there was Our Lord on the cross-about where you are now. The boys were overcome with amazement and so was I. Our Lord did not want me to strike the boys, and so He appeared. I heard them saying: ‘Jesus, Jesus is there with the Cure.’ No doubt, some of them saw Him, but they kept running all the same. I had had wire-netting put up, and those boys got out above and below the wire-netting, scratching out the earth with their hands like dogs or rabbits.” “Our Lord was almost torn asunder. The arms were straight out, at right angles to the body. He had on His Head what looked like a bush of thorns, like a basket upside down. It was a hood of thorns. What an outrage I He had one foot nailed upon the other, I think, but it was His Face I was looking it. To make the crown they must have put several branches together and twisted them, and then hammered them in with cudgel blows. It was a mass of sharp points. He wore grey linen round His loins, knotted at the back, not at the side.” “I could almost have touched His Feet, by lifting my hand. It was an apparition willed by Our Lord and not the scene of Calvary. On Calvary the cross was very high, and it was set in the earth and choked with stones. But in the apparition no hole was marked in the ground. The cross appeared near the outer corner of the orchard, facing me, with its back to the street. The boys were running away from me very fast, but after the apparition they ran faster.” -Click here for more mystical visions from Rev.(Pere) Lamy ————— – See more at: http://www.mysticsofthechurch.com/#sthash.qX1SaXTY.dpuf
Long read but worth it.
|THE TRUE STORY OF FATIMA|
|Father John de Marchi, I.M.C,
|IntroductionThrough no gift of the author’s, but by the divine power, this is one of the very great stories of modern times. The remarkable events occurring near Fatima, Portugal, in the months from May to October, 1917, gain significance and new meaning with every passing day; the friends and followers of Our Lady of Fatima, for whom this volume speaks, increase each year by numberless legion in prayerful certitude that what we are revealing here is true.
The author is a witness to this truth, having lived at Fatima for many years, and this plain book’s pretension to importance is that it is able to present for the first time to Americans the full and documented background against which God has written His own prescription for peace.
Much of this account is lovely and can be counted on to fulfil almost anyone’s story-book expectations, as it tells of the shepherd children, Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco. But it is also a divinely serious narrative recalling, to the likely discomfort of many, the reality of heaven and hell, and bringing to necessary attention other primary matters too often and too long placed out of mind. It is hoped that this book, in its completeness, will provide a kind of text on Fatima, and the author feels obliged, in the face of such ambition, to list the documents on which it has been based.
