Madrid, Spain, Dec 28, 2015 \/ 04:11 pm (CNA).- Is an exorcist afraid? What is the devil\u2019s favorite sin? These and other questions were tackled in an interview this summer with the Dominican priest, Father Juan Jos\u00e9 Gallego, an exorcist from the Archdiocese of Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain.<\/p>\n
It has been nine years since Fr. Gallego was appointed as exorcist. In an August interview conducted by the Spanish daily El Mundo, the priest said that in his experience, pride is the sin the devil likes the most.<\/p>\n
\u201cHave you ever been afraid?\u201d the interviewer asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the beginning I had a lot of fear,\u201d Fr. Gallego replied. \u201cAll I had to do was look over my shoulder and I saw demons\u2026 the other day I was doing an exorcism, \u2018I command you! I order you!\u2019\u2026and the Evil One, with a loud voice fires back at me: \u2018Galleeeego, you\u2019re over-doooing it.\u2019 That shook me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, he knows that the devil is not more powerful than God. The exorcist recalled that \u201cwhen they appointed me, a relative told me, \u2018Whoa, Juan Jos\u00e9, I\u2019m really afraid, because in the movie \u2018The Exorcist,\u2019 one person died and the other threw himself through a window. I said to her \u2018Don\u2019t forget that the devil is (just a) creature of God.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
When people are possessed, he added, \u201cthey lose consciousness, they speak strange languages, they have inordinate strength, they feel really bad, you see very well-mannered people vomiting and blaspheming.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was a boy whom the demon would set his shirt on fire at night and things like that. He told me what the demons were proposing him to do: If you make a pact with us, you\u2019ll never have to go through any more of what you\u2019re going through now.\u201d<\/p>\n
Father Gallego also warned that \u201cNew Age\u201d practices like reiki and some yoga can be points of entry for the demons. He also said that addictions are \u201ca type of possession.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen people are going through a crisis they suffer more. They can feel hopeless, People feel like they\u2019ve got the devil inside,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
