May God reward him for his efforts.)<\/p>\n<p>Cora Evans is a 20th century Catholic mystic with an amazing story of conversion and mystical journey. \u00a0\u00a0The information and photos from this article are the \u00a0from the Cora Evans web site (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.coraevans.com\/\">http:\/\/www.coraevans.com<\/a>) \u00a0and curated from several of her published writings. \u00a0I have had the pleasure of meeting the custodian for Cora\u2019s writings, \u00a0Mr. Michael McDevitt, who is the nephew of Cora Evan\u2019s spiritual Director, Fr. Frank Parrish, S.J.. \u00a0Michael\u2019s \u00a0Aunt and her Physician Husband were close friends of Cora and personally witnessed many of her Charisms.<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The Vatican currently considers Cora a \u201cServant of God\u201d, which is an initial step in the process towards sainthood. \u00a0Christ\u2019s plan for mankind\u2019s salvation involves selection of \u00a0individuals like Cora to carryout earth bound missions. \u00a0Cora\u2019s mission included promulgating the Mystical Humanity of Christ , which is a way of prayer that encourages people to live with a heightened awareness of the indwelling presence of Jesus in their daily lives. \u00a0(CoraEvans.com). During her life she experienced such mysticisms \u00a0as the stigmata, ecstasies, bi-location, and \u00a0mystical writings based upon visions shown her by Jesus Christ.<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b>Beginnings<\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Cora\u2019s journey began with her birth on \u00a0July 9,1904 in Midvale, Utah. \u00a0Her first mystical experience happened when she was 3 years old in the form of \u00a0an apparition of the Blessed Mother. \u00a0She was unable to comprehend the vision but it left a profound mark upon her life. \u00a0It was not until years later did she finally understand its meaning and message (Cora Evans.com)<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Cora was a \u00a0baptized into the Mormon faith at 8 yrs. of age and Cora lived her Mormon faith while participating in the \u00a0close nit community life the Mormon faith is well known for. \u00a0Cora and Her husband, Maclellan \u201cMack\u201d \u00a0Evans, where married on June 4, 1924 in the worldwide headquarters for the Mormon faith, Salt Lake City Utah Temple. \u00a0The marriage ceremony within the Mormon Church is unique \u00a0and left her disillusioned with the Mormon faith. \u00a0Based upon that experience Cora began a 10 year journey ultimately leading \u00a0her to the One True God (CoraEvans.com).<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The following 10 years Cora and Mack had three children while living in Ogden Utah. They both suffered the \u00a0pain and disappointment of losing one of their children during infancy. \u00a0During this time Cora continued to investigate various religions but found none that met her longing. \u00a0She considered Catholicism but due to pervasive ant-catholic sentiments within the Mormon church she ruled it out as a viable option.<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Cora had a turning point while she lay ill in bed on \u00a0Dec 9, 1934. \u00a0While alone she \u00a0listened to the radio and feeling too sick to change the channel she began to hear \u00a0a radio program called the \u201cCatholic Radio Hour\u201d. \u00a0As she listened to the broadcast of Monsignor Duane Hunt he spoke about the Blessed Mother and the Catholic faith. \u00a0\u00a0She found the messages from Monsignor Hunt conflicted with what she had come to understand as a Mormon about the Catholic faith.<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">After recovering from her illness Cora followed her curiosity about the Catholic faith and visited St Joseph Catholic Church located in her community. \u00a0What followed were several meetings in her home between the parish priest for St Joseph Church, Father Edward Vaughn, and several \u00a0Mormon bishops. \u00a0Cora became aware of the misrepresentations by the Mormon Church of the Catholic faith thus beginning her road to catholic conversion.<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Cora was subsequently baptized on March 30, 1935 followed by her First Holy Communion the next day. \u00a0\u00a0Cora\u2019s husband Mack and her two daughters \u00a0followed her into the Catholic faith. \u00a0Father Vaughn credited Cora Evans directly \u00a0with many Mormon conversions to Catholicism within her community totaling many hundreds.<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b>Vow Day for a Mystic<\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Cora began experiencing mystical phenomena while still living in Utah and on \u00a0July 1938, she had a profound mystical experience. Cora wrote about this event in the autobiography of her mystical life, titled <b><i>&#8220;Captain of the Ship.&#8221;<\/i><\/b> During this deep ecstasy Cora made the choice to serve God for the rest of her life. She described the state of her soul as being intimately united to God, and referred to this as her vow day:<br \/>\n<b><i>&#8220;It was necessary for me to live my chosen vocation with Him as my companion. This was due impart to her husbands inability to acquire employment \u00a0which drove them to leave family and friends. \u00a0\u00a0There she joined St. Cecelia Church, Archdiocese of Los Angles. As Cora began having experiences with greater frequency, including visitations by saints, she sought out guidance from the church. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0In response to her search for spiritual guidance, on February 20, 1945, Father Frank Parrish, S.J. was appointed her confessor and spiritual director by the Provincial of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits).<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/_fQ21T0GOYoZ5geImaGdGue1D2HlXNfzMWxSKyPh5ggG7xT_W8C3KmLQjpJAJhHSiD1AWwIbSQQYPbTNpeAJ8SwJLOJVHv2oSIr7XmRQ-n6WbOldvCU7i8LGIXapNr_r8SCjwQd-I46U39QZ\" alt=\"\" width=\"156\" height=\"177\" \/><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Fr. She learned that she was to promulgate the Mystical Humanity of Christ, a way of prayer that encourages people to live with a heightened awareness of the indwelling presence of Jesus in their daily lives. It is Eucharistic spirituality, and Jesus promised to foster the devotion. Father Frank served as the spiritual guide of Cora&#8217;s soul for the rest of her life. It is the story of her life with the proof of heroic virtues that places everything else in context<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">(except from the Cora Evans website). \u00a0Cora\u2019s writings amount to volumes of books. \u00a0\u00a0She was said to type rapidly and in order to keep up, rolls of paper were attached to the type writer allowing her to type unhindered by having to stop to change paper.<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Prior to writing\u00a0&#8220;<b>The Refugee from Heaven&#8221;<\/b>, Cora Evans expressed her gratitude to our Lord:<br \/>\n<b><i>&#8220;I knelt in prayer to thank Jesus for His gift of knowledge and for the gift of writing He had given me, better to describe His life and infinite love into our world.&#8221;<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Cora prayed about the graces bestowed on her, the craft of writing, and the responsibility of accurately conveying our Lord&#8217;s wishes:<br \/>\n<b><i>&#8220;My soul gives Thee thanks for this great trust, and in that trust I believe Thou will help me write the knowledge for souls to use as a steppingstone to love Thee more. Cora Evans, Age 32 God&#8217;s gifts were so clearly caught up into my soul, there to write them for His glory for souls on earth. To begin such a task is only to lose myself in the mystery of time and pretend that I am a citizen of Jerusalem taking notes from the Master&#8217;s lips. I am just the reporter and of myself filled with many imperfections.&#8221;<\/i><\/b><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">She continued:<br \/>\n<b><i>&#8220;To understand, Beloved, the path of my mission would be to say with deepest sincerity,\u00a0not my will be done, but Thine.&#8221; She always positioned writing as &#8220;an act of continuous praise for the glory of God.&#8221;<\/i><\/b>(Excerpt CoraEvans.com)<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/SCGZTNdkNqQGmyEbz-t1-SvCf-CB2uD_i6nnHcjAibbOFC3Hb2MzHGiHsZnqX8_T4RGRBetiWVInnmd1L-grHkceo9fDTgqBobm93K8ByYfIWG59hzjpA9ChB_2Ye7ypYdISv3nbanqZUFvE\" alt=\"Macintosh HD:Users:jmack:Desktop:rolls-shelf-paper.jpg\" width=\"274\" height=\"247\" \/><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Picture of Cora Evans with some of her writings.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Note the long rolls of paper \u00a0in her hand.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">At the end of a typical day of typing she<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">would have 20 or 30 feet long<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">(Cora Evans.com)<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b>Final Years And Passing<\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">In 1957 Cora Moved from Los Angles to \u00a0Boulder Creek in Northern California, joining the Saint Michael Parish, Diocese of Monterrey, California. \u00a0There she would live out her life \u00a0continuing to experience mystical phenomena including the stigmata. \u00a0Cora prayed that she would be given the same gift as Saint Therese of Lisieux, the Little Flower, spending her heaven on earth doing good, and promised to pray for all who asked for her intercession. \u00a0On Mar. 30, 1957 Cora passed away peacefully. \u00a0\u00a0An interesting footnote: Cora died exactly \u00a0Twenty-two years to the day she was baptized into the Catholic faith (March 30, 1935).<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Cora\u2019s Spiritual Director<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Cora\u2019s spiritual director was a thoughtful and devoted priest with no prior experience guiding a soul such as Cora Evans. \u00a0He provides the following quote when he was alive:<br \/>\n<i>\u201cIt is very easy to convince oneself of the abundance of charismatic graces that adorn the soul of Cora Evans, by merely reading her writings. Keeping in mind that she is a woman with little worldly education, her words of wisdom, her words of knowledge about the most exalted mysteries of religion, are charisms. What is still more extraordinary is the fact that in all her revelations, divine messages, etc., nothing is ever found that is not in accordance with sound theology. Many new details about Catholic truths, deeper knowledge of theological truths, add new light and evidence to the deposit of faith, especially regarding the humanity of Christ, the Holy Eucharist, and the indwelling of Christ.\u201d<\/i> \u00a0Father Frank Parrish, S.J. (1911-2003) Confessor and Spiritual Director to Cora Evans<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Current Status of Cause for Sainthood:<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Declared Servant of God<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The Cause for Cora Evans sainthood was opened and announced by Bishop Garcia. and declared Servant of God on Feb. 15, 2011. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0On Mar. 29, 2012, the Vatican grants nihil obstat, authorizing the Cause of Beatification and Canonization to proceed. A letter signed by Angelo Cardinal Amato, S.D.B., prefect, Congregation for the Causes of Saints. The Diocese of Monterey, California, is proceeding with the investigation of her life and writings. \u00a0This includes the investigation into miracles including cures that are attributed to Cora Evans intersession.<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Prayer for the Intercession of Cora Evans<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Cora prayed that she would be given the same gift as Saint Therese of Lisieux, the Little Flower, spending her heaven on earth doing good, and promised to pray for all who asked for her intercession. \u00a0The Archbishop of San Francisco granted the Imprimatur for the intercessory prayer, written by Cora\u2019s Spiritual Director, \u00a0Father Frank Parrish, S.J..<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Dear Jesus,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">You blessed Cora Evans with many supernatural mystical gifts as a means of drawing us to a deeper and more intimate union with your Sacred Heart through Your Divine Indwelling, Your Mystical Humanity. I ask You through her intercession to help me in my special request (name the favor) and my efforts to do Your will here on earth and be with You, Your Blessed Mother, Saint Joseph and the whole Court of Heaven forever.<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Say three times: the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><b>Cora\u2019s Writings Spur Profound Questions<\/b><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/elOMiCvzFl0nHYg995tUNgMp_6FwSNhx8NNYnWXdnf25q-DkjP5aI-KN4wTnRnk8ZP1SDjBq-VHr7hRXKwHvqgOoehaKkKrQsRjNpk5mSb9ullj0t_LqWTRcoIgOZ0lo-ZXLVtDKXCRHeNxI\" alt=\"\" width=\"271\" height=\"320\" \/><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Front cover to Cora Evans\u2019s book title: <b>Refugee from Heaven<\/b><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">(Coraevans.com)<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">One of the writings Cora produced is titled the \u201cRefugee from Heaven\u201d (Coraevans.com). \u00a0This book chronicles several important periods in Christ\u2019s Life. \u00a0The book is similar to the Life and Revelations of Anne Catherine Emmerich or writings by Venerable Sister Mary of Jesus Agreda (Mystical City of God) in that the writings are generated from private revelations chronicling the life, selected events, and death of Jesus Christ.<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The book was inspired through visions \u00a0shown to her by Jesus Christ during her many ecstasies. Cora would later sit down to \u00a0type what she could recall of these visions \u00a0at incredible speeds demonstrating writing ability far in excess of her level of education and usual writing ability.<\/div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Belief in private Revelation is not required by \u00a0the Catholic Church but rather \u00a0left to personal discernment. \u00a0However, \u00a0if we assume Cora\u2019s writings are in fact divinely inspired it provides several new insights into the life of Christ as well as the death and burial of John The Baptist. New information is revealed in; The Refugee from Heaven, which may spark questions that may never be answered. Questions from the book include: \u00a0Will the swaddling clothes of Jesus Christ \u00a0be uncovered? Will the place of prayer built by John the Baptist be found?
