On the 17th of December, 1899, the fast mail on the way from Bordeaux to Paris met with a collision. In the mail car was Gabriel Gargam, a 30-year-old post office express clerk. At the time of the wreck the train was going at the speed of fifty miles an hour. By the crash Gargam was thrown fifty-two feet. He was terribly bruised and broken and paralyzed from the waist down. He was barely alive when lifted onto a stretcher. Taken to a hospital, his existence for some time was a living death. After eight months he had wasted away to a mere skeleton, weighing but seventy-eight pounds, although normally a big man. His feet became gangrenous. He could take no solid food and was obliged to take nourishment by a tube. Only once in twenty-four hours could he be fed even that way.
Gargam’s condition was pitiable in the extreme. He could not help himself even in the most trifling needs. Two trained nurses were needed day and night to assist him. Previous to the accident, Gargam had not been to church for fifteen years. His aunt, who was a nun of the Order of the Sacred Heart, begged him to go to Lourdes. He refused. She continued her appeals to him to place himself in the hands of Our Lady of Lourdes. He was deaf to all her prayers. After continuous pleading of his mother he consented to go to Lourdes. It was now two years since the accident, and not for a moment had he left his bed all that time. He was carried on a stretcher to the train. The exertion caused him to faint, and for a full hour he was unconscious. They were on the point of abandoning the pilgrimage, as it looked as if he would die on the way, but the mother insisted, and the journey was made.
Arrived at Lourdes, he was carried to the miraculous pool and tenderly placed in its waters–no effect. Rather a bad effect resulted, for the exertion threw him into a swoon and he lay apparently dead. On the way back they saw the procession of the Blessed Sacrament approaching. They stood aside to let it pass, having placed a cloth over the face of the man whom they supposed to be dead.
As the priest passed carrying the Sacred Host, he pronounced Benediction over the sorrowful group around the covered body. Soon there was a movement from under the covering. To the amazement of the bystanders, the body raised itself to a sitting posture. While the family were looking dumbfounded and the spectators gazed in amazement, Gargam said in a full, strong voice that he wanted to get up. He got up and stood erect, walked a few paces and said that he was cured. The multitude looked in wonder, and then fell on their knees and thanked God for this new sign of His power at the shrine of His Blessed Mother. For two years hardly any food had passed his lips but now he sat down to the table and ate a hearty meal.
On August 20th, 1901, sixty prominent doctors examined Gargam. Without stating the nature of the cure, they pronounced him entirely cured. Gargam, out of gratitude to God in the Holy Eucharist and His Blessed Mother, consecrated himself to the service of the invalids at Lourdes. Fifteen years after his miraculous cure he was still engaged in his strenuous and devoted work. He was for years a living, visible testimony of the supernatural.
PRAYER: May the Heart of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament be praised, adored and loved with grateful affection, at every moment, in all the tabernacles of the world, even to the end of time.

The late Arvin S. Gibson was a retired nuclear engineer, a prominent near-death experience researcher and a co-founder of the Utah chapter of IANDS. His research culminated in the publication of several major works on the subject of NDEs including research on how NDE research supports doctrines of the Mormon (LDS) Church. In 1996, Arvin Gibson interviewed a firefighter named John Hernandez who had a most unusual NDE while working with other firefighters in a forest. What makes it unique is that it happened at the same time as several co-workers were also having an NDE. During their NDEs, they actually met each other and saw each other above their lifeless bodies. All survived and they verified with each other afterwards that the experience actually happened. The following testimonies of Arvin Gibson and John Hernandez can be found in both of Gibson’s books, Fingerprints of God (Gibson, 1996, pp. 128-31) and They Saw Beyond Death (Gibson, 1999, pp. 128-33).
At the homily Monsignor uttered the following words:
Dear Brother Bishops:
Twelve years as pastor in San Nicolas and having followed this Marian event with faith and responsibility, I know from the beginning have grown in the decision to admit to my diocese.
I worked in consultation with experts and witnesses and aware that the duty to monitor or intervene rests primarily with the local ordinary, I assume, as the bishops who preceded me, the decision to support, guide and testify about this event in San Nicolas.
I judged the fact according to two criteria: Positives and negatives and in both cases there were no errors.
I discerned on three specific criteria, namely:
Event Is naturally occurring? Can it be work of the enemy? Is it supernatural origin? And the answers to these questions left me sure that it is the real and positive fruit exceeding mere human action.
On the occasion of the Jubilee of Mercy of the pilgrims from the Diocese, I announce this valid decision for the flock which I guide and accompany with it the presentation of a book entitled “SPIRITUAL SCHOOL OF SANTA MARIA DEL ROSARIO DE SAN NICOLAS” highlighting the most important teachings in the messages she gives us for our commitment to everything he tells us because he is the culmination of revelation.
I promulgated it this Sunday, May 22 at the Mass for pilgrims from the Marian Shrine and celebrating this jubilee on the seventh anniversary of his coronation.
On those assertions, AND AS DIOCESAN BISHOP ENTITLED TO THIS KIND OF STATEMENT; MOTIVATED BY A SENSE OF AWARENESS FAIR DECREE WITH MORAL CERTAINTY, GOOD INTENT AND HOPE; FULFILLING THE REQUIREMENTS OF INSIGHT SUGGESTED BY THE HOLY SEE; SEEKING GREATER GLORY AND THE SAKE OF OUR CHURCH; CALLING ON THE NAME OF GOD ALMIGHTY FATHER, SON AND HOLY SPIRIT, THE NAME OF MARY OF THE ROSARY OF SAN NICOLAS, IS YOUR HUSBAND SAN JOSE, ACKNOWLEDGE THE SUPERNATURAL CHARACTER OF HAPPY EVENTS WITH GOD THROUGH HIS FAVORITE DAUGHTER JESUS ??THROUGH HIS MOTHER MARY, THE HOLY SPIRIT THROUGH HIS LOVELY WIFE, WANTED TO MANIFEST HERELF LOVINGLY IN OUR DIOCESE
FINALLY AND HOW THE HOLY MOTHER HAS TO HEAVEN ON BEHALF OF ALL THE DIOCESE, THAT IS IT, BY THE EVER QUEEN AND LADY OF SAN NICOLAS DE ARROYOS

“I don’t think I will ever be the same having seen this astonishing thing.”
That’s what William Friedkin, the director of the horror classic “The Exorcist,” said to an audience at the Cannes film festival last week.
As reported by Agence France-Presse, Friedkin, 80, claimed that earlier this month he was allowed to film a real exorcism at the Vatican. “I was invited by the Vatican exorcist to shoot and video an actual exorcism which…few people have ever seen and which nobody has ever photographed,” he said.
The Vatican denied “making any such invitation. The Vatican (itself) does not have an exorcist,” a spokesman told AFP. “People often confuse any Catholic initiative/organization/person with the Vatican. Perhaps this is the case here.”
Friedkin said he intended to shoot “The Exorcist” as a horror movie, but the more he learned the more it became a case study of a real exorcism. The film recounts the demonic possession of a 12-year-old girl and an exorcism conducted on her by two priests.
“When I started I thought I was making a horror film and then the priest, who was the president of Georgetown University (in Washington DC), let me read these diaries and I knew that it was not a horror film,” Friedkin told AFP. “This was a case of exorcism.”
The real life case that “The Exorcist” was based on involved a boy. Friedkin said he believed the boy was genuinely possessed. “I’m convinced that there was no other explanation. I read the diaries not only of the priest involved (in the exorcism), but the doctors, the nurses and the patients at Alexian Brothers Hospital in Saint Louis where this case was carried out,” he added.
“Everything having to do with medical science and psychiatry was attempted. This young man suffered from afflictions very similar to what’s in the film, as hard is that is to believe.”
Will Our Lady Come Back To Fatima Again?
By Richard Salbato
One should re-study the story and messages of Fatima over and over again. Fatima is something like the Bible. No matter how many times you read it, you always get something new out of it. If you pray at the Cova and look at the spot where Our Lady appeared to the children, you should reflect on how much She changed the world already from this very spot. She predicted the rise of Hitler and Communism and She predicted that She would defeat them. Almost all the predictions She made at Fatima have come to pass. She promised that sometime after all these problems She would grant to the world a “period of peace”.
This “peace’ has not happened yet.
Lucia, before her death, said, “Our Lady will keep Her promise”. Of this we can be sure, but what we cannot be sure of is how this can possibly come to pass considering the state of the world today. Peace seems impossible!
When you compare Fatima with other (approved) prophesies it is always the same, a promised period of peace in the world and unity of all Christian Churches and nations. The difference with these other prophesies compared to Fatima is that this period of peace always seems to come about like the birth of a new child, a lot of pain before a great joy.
Do the messages of Fatima give any hint as to how this peace will happen?
Some things that hint as to how a peace might happen are in the story, the messages and the history around it. The first is the fact of Pope Benedict XV.
In May of 1917, during World War I, Pope Benedict XV made a direct appeal to Mary to intercede for peace in the world. The response was Mary’s first appearance at Fatima just over a week later. Now we have the next Pope Benedict, who sent a friend to Fatima on the day he was elected to offer some prayers to Her for him. We do not yet know what that prayer is.
“I shall return Here a Seventh Time”
The most striking thing is this. On 13 May 1917 when Our Lady appeared, Lucia asked Her what She wanted and Our Lady said.
“I have come to ask you to come here for six months on the 13th day of the month, at this same hour. Later I shall say who I am and what I desire. And ………..I shall return here yet a seventh time………….”
On page 175 of “Fatima in Lucia’s own words” the same statement is made: “I shall return HERE yet a seventh time.”
One book says that Our Lady did appear to Lucia on June 16, 1921 when she was leaving for Oporto, but in her memoirs on page 116 she said she went to the Cova to pray a rosary and then left. No mention of an apparition. Father John De Marchi’s famous book, “Fatima from the beginning” had this statement in the first printing but it was left out of the second printing. After Lucia’s memoirs “Fatima In Lucia’s own words” was published it was put back in Father De Marchi’s book for the third printing and every printing after that.
The six apparitions of Mary to the children had very important meanings for the entire world. If you study them like you would the bible, you will see that every single word had great meaning. Even the personal things, like them going to heaven soon, proved to be universal in its meaning. This statement, “I shall return here yet a seventh time” could not have been a simple thing of wishing Lucia well in going to Oporto even if that were true and there is no evidence of it. It could not have been referring to later apparitions to Jacinta at the Parish Church because that was twice and it was not “aqui” —here (in this place), meaning at the Cova da Iria. It could not have meant the apparitions in Spain, because this was not “aqui” and it was several apparitions, not a Seventh Time. This statement is very important and you will see it plainly if you read all the message in context.
You will have to conclude that Our Lady is coming back to Fatima again someday because this has not happened yet. People may think you as crazy as the Garabandal people if you say this. But maybe, if Garabandal was demonic and it could have been, maybe the devil saw in Fatima what many are not seeing, and wanted to draw attention away from that fact, the fact of another apparition in Fatima some day in the future.
This might be a little crazy but in Fatima there are a lot of experts. The four people here that are both holy and wise when it comes to the messages of Fatima have been asked about the seventh apparition. Of course, Lucia could answer this but she is now dead. The other four have answered the question. (names not useful for this Newsletter for now)
The first said without a second thought, “Of course She is coming here again.”
The second said, “She has not come a seventh time yet.”
The third said, “Heaven does not make mistakes in semantics. She said ‘here’ at the Cova and She has not done that yet.”
The fourth said, “You are only now figuring that out. I have known that for many years.”
In every case they said that they have not said anything about this because they did not want to seem fanatical like Gruner or other doomsday prophets. No one, absolutely no one objected to Her coming back to Fatima again someday.
Do not expect many others to agree with this conclusion. But, if true, now let us speculate as to how, why and when. How would She appear? Why would She return a seventh time? When would She return a seventh time? Would it have to do with spreading devotion to Her Immaculate Heart? Would it have to do with “In the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph”? Would it have to do with “and there will be a period of peace”? To be honest no one knows and no one should pretend to know for sure. What you might be convinced of after careful study is that She will return a seventh time to Fatima. Anything beyond that is speculation and it is worth nothing more than that.
Anyone trying to out guess God is going to have egg in his face but if it makes people think it might be a good exercise in logical thinking. Let us look at facts and try to come up with some logic about the seventh apparition from them.
On October 13, 1917 where Our Lady said to Lucia, “… The war is going to end, and the soldiers will soon return to their homes.” And in October the war ended. It may be that Our Lady will return during some form of war.
Our Lady also said, “In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me, and she will be converted, and a period of peace will be granted to the world. In Portugal, the dogma of the Faith will always be preserved; etc…Do not tell this to anybody. Francisco, yes, you may tell him.” Maybe peace will come from Portugal or Our Lady will come when Portugal is about to loose the faith or to preserve the faith at the last moment.
From Leo Madigan’s new and great book, “Armchair Fatima” on page 92: “After the victory of King Henriques which started the Christian country of Portugal, the King built the great monastery of Alcobaca as a reward for the prayers of the Cistercian monks there. The head of the order, St. Bernard of Clarvaux, wrote the following.
‘There will always be Portuguese kings to reign over Portugal unless, by the gravity of faults, God may punish it. But the length of that punishment will not go beyond 60 years.’
From 1136 to 1910 that has been true. But in 1910 with the takeover of the Masons, there has not been an official king now going on 95 years. We might speculate that in 1646 King Joao IV gave his crown to Our Lady and said that from now on The Immaculate Conception is the monarch of Portugal.”
Or maybe there must be another revolution in Portugal to bring back a Catholic nation and its moral values.
In the apparitions of Nicaragua 25 years ago there is some hints. The seer became a priest and died some years ago. This year is the 25th anniversary of the apparition. On May 8, 2005 all the bishops of Nicaragua went to the place of the apparitions, Cuapa, with 25,000 faithful to honor Our Lady and the apparitions. This apparition saved Nicaragua from communism. And now Nicaragua is one of the best countries in South America to live in, attracting thousands of retired people from all over the world. Although the messages were mostly about the Rosary and the Five First Saturdays (the Fatima message) one message seems important to the facts of this Newsletter.
“Pray, my son, the Rosary for all the world. Tell believers and non-believers that the world is threatened by grave dangers. I ask the Lord to appease His Justice, but if you don’t change, you will hasten the arrival of a Third World War.”
And yet this great apparition and its 25th Anniversary go almost unnoticed in the world Catholic press. But the unapproved apparitions can be found everywhere. Anyway, let us not digress.
Before her death Lucia said that the story of Fatima is only half done and you can be sure of that. The graces that have poured out to the world from this apparition have not stopped and will continue until we have a kingdom of Heaven on Earth as it is in Heaven. The world has not changed and people have not changed, and we are in a war, a war for souls.
When people think of peace they think of the wars around the world, Africa, middle east, etc. But the real war is going on in America and Europe and we are not seeing it in the news, a war for the hearts and souls of people. Did you know that the errors of the French Revolution carried over to the 20th Century. My French friend just reminded me that in 1901 a law in France was issued to control all religious congregations and authorities. Each religion group and its members would be controlled by the State. And in 1902 France evicted all religious congregations toughening the application of Law Ferry. 2500 catholic schools were closed! All crucifixes are evicted from public buildings and schools.
In 1905 France became the first country to declare Separation of Church and State. The State stopped financial subventions to the churches and places of worship. The assets of the Catholic Church were confiscated. Inventories were made by the police inside all churches, even opening Corpus Christi tabernacles to see what was inside. All priests, nuns, monks who did not want to be subjected to Republican Laws were killed or deported to French Guyana. Then Freud, Marx and a lot of French writers spread their heretic humanist philosophies from the Latin Quarter of Paris throughout the world.
We now have the errors of communism put in the anti-god European Constitution and that would be the ruin of Europe. But a funny thing happened – the very country that was responsible for writing it, voted no to its ratification. Maybe now (with more pressure from Catholics throughout Europe) a proper constitution can be written. If not, expect the justice of God before any peace.
Most likely possible reasons and ways of a seventh apparition of Our Lady Of Fatima
Expect a seventh appearance of Our Lady of Fatima as part of the method of bringing about a worldwide peace
Expect the world (because of this) to understand that the peace came from Her Immaculate Heart.
Expect this to happen when all seems lost, at least spiritually.
Expect no seer but just Our Lady appearing to a large multitude of people on one of Her feast days.
Expect no verbal message but just Her appearance at a time when the reason will be self-evident.
Expect this to come under the reign of Benedict XVI.
Expect Her to come in answer to the Holy Father’s prayers although we may not know this until later.
Expect Her appearance to convert most the Christian world to the Catholic Faith.
Expect unity of all Christians sometime after this event.

The National Organization for Women (NOW) has been ordered to pay $63,000 in court cases to a group of pro-life activists, in the final act of a long-running legal case that began in 1986.
NOW had brought suit against Joseph Scheidler and a group of co-defendants under the federal RICO act– legislation designed to curb organized crime– charging them with a criminal conspiracy to shut down abortion clinics. The suit was finally dismissed after a series of trials and appeals.
The 7th Circuit Court has now ruled that NOW must pay “modest” court costs to the defendants, allowing a bit more than $2,000 for each year the case was in the courts. The ruling noted that the case was 28 years old and had been brought before the US Supreme Court three times. “This litigation has lasted far too long,” the decision said. “At last it is over.”
Of the aurora borealis and great, if terrible, events
Many years ago we read a fascinating article by an atomic researcher named J. Rand McNally Jr. of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, who also happened to be Catholic with a special interest in Our Lady of Fatima — Our Lady of the Rosary — whose anniversary we celebrate this month on May 13. We were reminded of him recently by a friend, and so perhaps should revisit McNally’s fascinating insight.
That had to do with the “great sign” predicted by the Blessed Mother at Fatima to two of the three visionaries in 1917, a sign that — to quote Mary — would forerun the beginning of a great war. “When you see a night illumined by an unknown light, know that this is the great sign given by God that He is about to punish the world for its crimes…” Isn’t it interesting how many in our Church deny — and even preach — that God does not chastise? Here is the Blessed Mother, in what is perhaps the world’s best known apparition, saying that He does exactly this.
Be that as it may, when, in January of 1938 (just before Hitler annexed Austria, which set the conflict in motion), there was a tremendous, headline-making display of the aurora borealis, or “northern lights” — seen from England to Morocco, from Europe (including Spain, where Fatima seer Sister Lucia dos Santos was at the time cloistered) to Canada and the Midwest, even seen in San Diego! — described by pilots as like curtains of fire, and even making the front pages of newspapers such as The New York Times — Lucia wrote that “if scientists would investigate, they would find that it was not an aurora, in the form in which it appeared, but the ‘great sign.'”
That’s precisely what McNally did, noting that besides its great length, brightness, and breadth — truly extraordinary luminosity — “was the appearance for about ten minutes of two giant red spots.”
In querying an astrophysicist, McNally learned that such spots are not normally associated with the aurora borealis — but they are associated, as McNally, a nuclear scientist knew, with nuclear blasts; one example was as a six-hundred-mile-wide red spot that with the detonation in the upper atmosphere in 1958 of a U.S. TEAK megaton bomb above Johnston Island in the beleaguered Pacific (many were the islanders who suffered from radiation).
Moreover, McNally noted that an administrator at the Fatima shrine in Portugal had himself seen the red spot — from Fatima — during eruption of the 1938 aurora (the widest one, reckoned astronomers, since 1709).
This in its turns seemed to link directly with what was much later revealed as the third secret of Fatima: a vision of an angel ready to torch the world — chastise it (with fire) — for its sin. A warning of nuclear holocaust if mankind continued to stray?
McNally worried that a massive atmospheric nuclear blast would one day eat up our atmosphere, creating a magnetic dynamo that set off fusion of air particles (“annihilating nations”), or would take down electronics. The 1938 aurora created local effects on the earth’s magnetic field, and disrupted radio-telegram communications. Imagine today!
Meanwhile, one should note that in 2001, right after 9/11, and not long after the Vatican had released the third secret, unusual auroras — if not quite on the scale of 1938 — flared again.
This time the conflict recalled Lepanto: perhaps a new, slow-grinding kind of war between believing Christians and radical Muslims (the name “Fatima” came from Mohammed’s daughter), a war that in our time gains flare and momentum.Pictures at link.
Pius X was buried in an unadorned tomb in the crypt beneath St. Peter’s Basilica. Papal physicians customarily removed organs from the deceased pontiff’s corpse as part of the embalming process. Pius X prohibited this practice in his burial, as have successive popes. Forty years after his death, Pius X’s body was exhumed as part of the beatification process and found intact. Below is rare footage of St. Pius X’s incorrupt body in which his face is adorned with a bronze mask. St. John XXIII is seen venerating his predecessor’s earthly remains along with various princes of the Church among others.
